Appointments for faculty and officers of administration are initiated at the unit level at the time of hire with support from the Office of the Provost (OtP). Appointments and ranks for non-bargaining unit members are covered by the UO policy on Academic Classification and Rank, and bargaining unit members are covered by Article 15 of the UA CBA.

Offer letters and appointments for tenure-track and instructional non-tenure-track faculty members are approved by OtP. Offer letters for research non-tenure-track faculty members are approved by the Office of the Vice President for Research and Innovation.

The process for initiating a search, recruitment and selection of candidates, and completing the hire can be found on the Office of Human Resources website.

The offer of appointment and appointment contract will specify whether a position is designated tenure-related.
