Appointments

Appointments for executive searches and officers of administration are initiated at the unit/school or college level at the time of hire with support from the Office of the Provost (OtP). Appointments and ranks for non-bargaining unit members are covered by the UO policy on Academic Classification and Rank, and bargaining unit members are covered by Article 15 of the UA CBA.

Offer letters and appointments for tenure-track and instructional career faculty members are approved by OtP. Offer letters for research career faculty members are approved by the Office of the Vice President for Research and Innovation.

Tenure-track faculty
The offer of appointment and appointment contract will specify whether a position is designated tenure-related.

Career faculty 
The career faculty classification refers to all ongoing appointments in which bargaining unit faculty members are not eligible for tenure.

Limited Duration faculty

The limited duration classifications refer to a broad scope of positions, including: visiting, adjunct (or pro tempore), retired, and postdoctoral scholar.
