2024-25 Cohort - UO Leadership Academy

APPLICATIONS FOR THE 2024-25 COHORT OF THE UO LEADERSHIP ACADEMY ARE NOW CLOSED. APPLICATIONS FOR THE 2025-26 COHORT WILL OPEN NOVEMBER 2024 AND WILL BE DUE JANUARY 2025.

The UO Leadership Academy is designed to support the leadership development of diverse and talented faculty and staff, as well as to enhance the culture of collaboration and connection among participants. Leaders from different backgrounds, identity characteristics, beliefs, and experiences are selected to enhance group effectiveness and learning. The application form is linked at the bottom of this page.

Eligibility

The selection process intends to create an engaged and inclusive participant group that will enhance collaborative learning. A cohort of approximately 30 participants will be selected through an application process. Participants must be permanent UO employees, whose work focuses on the administrative or academic mission (e.g. professor, instructor/lecturer, professor of practice, librarian, clinical professor, research professor, assistant/associate dean, assistant/associate vice provost, unit head, directors, assistant/associate director, program manager, etc). There is no specific title one must hold to apply - we all lead from where we are.

Application Overview

All applicants must complete this application form in full in order to be considered. This is a selective process with more applications submitted than can be chosen each year. The application is designed to assist you with sharing your experience and goals for consideration. The application itself, a Microsoft Form, has four sections to it, each of which are described below. Please read these over prior to filling out the online form.

Statement of Interest: The application form will ask you to upload a document with your answers to the following questions:

  1. What do you hope to learn, and how do you hope to develop through this experience? Why would the 2024-25 academic year be a good time for this investment in yourself? (500 words max)
  2. What challenges you as a leader (or emerging leader) on our campus? What’s needed to help you respond more effectively to the challenges you named? (500 words max) 
  3. In what ways have your unique life experiences (e.g. history, social identities, values, etc.) influenced your contributions to equity, inclusion, and diversity in the UO community? (500 words max) 
  4. The UO Leadership Academy frames leadership as the productive use of agency, influence, and relationships to enact positive change. If selected for this experience, how would you hope to use your enhanced agency, influence, and relationships to enact positive change at the UO? (500 words max)

Participant Agreement

Given the selective nature of the program, in the application form you will be asked to agree to participate in all meetings for the full allotted time. This will include a kick-off in June 2024 and ten Fridays between September 2024 and June 2025, from 9:30am - 3:30pm. Please compare your calendar with the dates below, prior to completing the application.

  • June 7, 2024, 1 to 4:30 p.m. (kickoff event)
  • Sept. 27, 2024, 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
  • Oct. 18, 2024, 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
  • Nov. 22, 2024, 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
  • Dec. 13, 2024, 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
  • Jan. 17, 2025, 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
  • Feb. 21, 2025, 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
  • Mar. 14, 2025, 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
  • Apr. 18, 2025, 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
  • May 9, 2025, 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
  • June 6, 2025, 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. (final session) & 1 to 2:30 p.m. (graduation celebration)

Please discuss your interest in applying with the person you report to, whether that be a supervisor, department head, dean, director etc. If selected, we will reach out to them and request they endorse the following statement on your behalf: "I believe this individual will benefit from and contribute to the UO Leadership Academy Class of 2025. I understand the time commitment necessary and have discussed ways to make time and other resources available September 2024 until June 2025 to enable them to participate fully. I see this program as an opportunity to strengthen their leadership experience and agree to support their development during this program and beyond."
