New Vice Provost for Diversity and Inclusion

Dear academic and administrative leaders,

Please join me in welcoming Troy Elias to his new role of associate vice provost for diversity and inclusion within the Office of the Provost’s Academic Affairs team.

Troy will work with colleagues to advance diversity and inclusion efforts and programs across the Academic Affairs portfolio. He will serve as the Office of the Provost liaison to the Active Recruitment Team, coordinate relevant trainings for faculty and tenure-track faculty search committees, and partner with colleagues in Human Resources, the Division of Equity and Inclusion, and other stakeholders to advance campus-wide best practices in hiring and retention of faculty from diverse backgrounds.

Troy is an associate professor in SOJC. He completed his Ph.D. in Strategic Communication at The Ohio State University and arrived at the University of Oregon in fall 2014 after five years at the University of Florida. Since, he has continued to impress colleagues and students through his instructional creativity and leadership. Troy’s 2018 Best Faculty Award, selected by the UO Student-Athlete Committee, is evidence of his outstanding teaching. Troy served as the director of Advertising in SOJC, and he also serves as faculty co-director of the Oregon Accelerator.

Troy has been a leader in advancing inclusive excellence in SOJC. His work in revitalizing the previously dormant student chapter of the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) and his expertise and research on media effects related to race, sexual orientation, and ethnicity showcase his ideal candidacy for the position.

We are thrilled to have Troy join our team and look forward to the continued impact he will make in this role.

Best,
Janet Woodruff-Borden
Executive Vice Provost for Academic Affairs
