Dear colleagues,
As you will recall, Carol Stabile was appointed to serve as acting dean of the Clark Honors College (CHC) in September 2020. During her tenure, the college has experienced unprecedented growth in students, appointed core faculty in a new diversity of fields, updated the curriculum, instituted innovative courses in public engagement, and enhanced student advising and support. I am grateful for her leadership over the last two and a half years, and I am also pleased to announce that we are ready to begin an internal search for a permanent dean.
The Clark Honors College dean is a critical position in our academic community, responsible for overseeing the education and development of some of our most ambitious and motivated students. The ideal candidate will be a visionary leader who is committed to excellence in teaching and research, and who will continue to enhance the Honors College experience for its students.
An internal search allows us to identify interested colleagues who are at the peak of their own scholarly careers, are familiar with our campus community, and who understand the myriad ways that the Honors College intersects academically with other schools and colleges. We will be considering a wide range of factors in our search process, including leadership experience, academic credentials, a record of impact and innovation in the classroom, and a clear vision for the college’s future.
The search will be led by a committee composed of CHC faculty, staff, and students, and chaired by Chris Poulsen, Tykeson Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. I look forward to hearing from the search committee as they identify a slate of highly qualified candidates, and I am confident that we will find an exceptional colleague to lead us forward. I encourage members of the university community, and those with an interest in the Honors College in particular, to participate in the search process by providing input and feedback as we bring finalists forward to engage with stakeholder groups and through a public presentation.
The deadline for applications will be March 31, 2023. To apply, please visit the UO Careers job posting. Search committee membership and forthcoming information about the schedule and candidates can be found on the Office of the Provost website.
If you have any questions about the position or process, or want to suggest someone as a candidate, please do not hesitate to contact me or the committee via otp@uoregon.edu.
Sincerely,
Janet Woodruff-Borden Acting Provost and Executive Vice President
