The Counseling Psychology Program, accredited by the American Psychological Association, trains students in health service psychology. It espouses a scientist-practitioner model and prepares students to be skilled researchers as well as skilled clinicians. Students completing the Counseling Psychology Program will be well-prepared to meet all requirements for licensure as a psychologist and engage in clinical practice in the state of Oregon. The states/territories in the U.S. oversee and regulate the practice of psychology through licensure in their respective states/territories. Because each state/territory maintains its own requirements for licensure as a psychologist and oversees and regulates the practice of psychology in their state/territory, it is undetermined whether students will be able to immediately pursue licensure as a psychologist in other states/territories. However, much of the training received in the Counseling Psychology Program at the University of Oregon is expected to be transferrable to requirements for licensure in other states/territories.
