Grading Option Update

February 11, 2022

Dear colleagues and students,

This message is to update you on the Academic Council’s pass/no pass adjustment for Winter 2022 Term and Spring 2022 Semester.

Winter 2022 Term Courses:

  • March 13, 2022: Deadline for students to change their grading option in DuckWeb. This will be applied immediately in DuckWeb. Beginning March 22, students will need to use the form referenced below. No changes will be allowed between March 14 and March 22 when the grading book is open for instructors to record grades.
  • March 22, 2022: Students will be able to use a form available in DuckWeb and on registrar.uoregon.edu  to submit a change to their grading option.  These will be processed as quickly as possible (and no later than 10 days after being submitted).
  • March 28, 2022: Deadline to change grading option via the form referenced above for students who have applied to graduate at the end of winter term 2022.
  • April 10, 2022: Deadline to change grading option via the form referenced above for all other students.

Spring 2022 Law Semester Courses:

March 27, 2022: Deadline for students to change their grading option in DuckWeb. After this March 27 extended deadline, students must submit a petition to the Law Academic Requirements Committee.

Grading Options:

Any course for which a student changes to the P/N grading option will be treated as P* in terms of university requirements.

If a student chooses P/N, grades will be recorded as follows:

  • Undergraduate: a P grade for a C- or above, and an N grade for a D+ or below.
  • Graduate: a P grade for a B- or above, and an N grade for a C+ or below.
  • Law: a P grade for a D or above, and an N grade for an F.

Departments should follow their normal policies around program requirements that are required to be graded. Departments are reminded that the P* grade counts towards the 168 credits required for graduation with grades of A, B, C, D, or P*. Departments still have the discretion on whether to accept P* grades for requirements that typically require a grade.

This information will be available on the Registrar's website.

Sincerely,
Janet Woodruff-Borden
Executive Vice Provost for Academic Affairs
