Department Head Strategy Session, Promotion and review updates

Dear unit heads,

Attend the Department Head Strategy Session to trade strategies with colleagues facing similar circumstances. The first session on Dec. 6 from noon to 1 p.m. will focus on navigating/leading multidisciplinary departments. Other topics are welcome as long as the focus is on the department head experience. RSVP by Nov. 15 to vpaa@uoregon.edu

Please consider these reminders during the promotion and review process:

  1. Watch for irregularities in faculty member’s promotion and/or tenure file materials – correct them before the file goes forward
  2. Please record promotion votes (committee and faculty) accurately. Instructions are provided on the dossier template on the Guides, Forms, and Templates webpage.
  3. When faculty members are serving on a college/school personnel committee or UO FPC, they should vote on promotion and tenure cases at the department level and recuse themselves from participating on that case at the higher-level personnel committee. At the department level only, faculty may vote with the personnel committee and also in the vote of the eligible department faculty.
  4. DEI engagement is documented in our reviews, but unlike the primary categories it should not be graded “does not meet/meets/exceeds expectations."

Encourage your faculty to attend Preparing for Post-Tenure Review (Q&A) Oct. 31 from 10-11 a.m. on Zoom. This session covers post-tenure reviews for associate or full professors. See additional fall term Q&A sessions.

Sincerely,

Renée Irvin
Vice Provost for Academic Affairs
