Dear academic leaders,
I hope you have found time this summer to engage in activities that are restorative and meaningful for you.
A few weeks ago, the Provost’s Office gathered for a series of retreats to identify the core values that would shape our work together and our leadership approach. Two important values identified were intentionality and partnership. To properly enact these values, I would like to reconsider our approach to this year’s Summit for Academic Leaders and instead invite deans, vice provosts, and unit heads to collaborate on the planning of this event. To make this a success, we will postpone the summit until October 30. This will replace the previously scheduled Fall All Unit Heads meeting.
Instead of our originally scheduled day, we invite you to a Gratitude Lunch on September 20 from noon to 2:00 p.m. in the EMU Redwood Auditorium. We want to express our deep appreciation for the diligence, care, and hard work you contribute as academic leaders. We will also present the Outstanding Department Head Award for 2024.
Prior to the Gratitude Lunch, our team will package and communicate any timely announcements to support a strong start to the fall term. If you have questions, members of our team will be available at the lunch.
Although I am unfortunately unable to attend the lunch, I look forward to connecting with you all at the newly scheduled summit and getting to know you throughout the academic year.
Sincerely,
Chris Long
Provost and Senior Vice President
