Week Nine Teaching Update

May 22, 2020

Colleagues,

This week, we highlight end-of-term activities: prompting student reflection on their learning and highlighting academic integrity. And we look ahead to summer teaching with updated resources like the new Remote Course Builder and upcoming orientation workshops.

The Office of the Provost Faculty and GE Support Group

Week Nine Checklist

  • Thinking about how to draw this extraordinary term to a close? Read ideas from TEP, the UO Career Center, and faculty colleagues for ending remote courses in ways that invite students to reflect on the full range of what they’ve learned, including relevant career readiness and resilience skills. You can watch a recording of the TEP/UO Online Powerful Endings Workshop.
  • As you look to final exams and projects with an eye toward academic integrity, the Office of Student Conduct and Community Standards reminds faculty and GEs that communicating explicit expectations about what's appropriate in terms of collaboration and consulting materials are helpful, as is opening channels to talk with you about their work and well-being, and reminding students of the potential consequences of misconduct. Instructions for using Vericite and randomizing and timing Canvas exams are available.
  • Zoom has issued a required upgrade to improve meeting security. To update Zoom on your computer, open the application, click on your picture (or initials) in the upper right, select “Check for Updates,” and install any updates when prompted. (If your computer is managed by your IT department, they will update Zoom for you.) After May 30, you will be forced to upgrade to Zoom v. 5 before connecting to a meeting.
