Faculty Hiring

The Office of the Provost facilitates tenure-track faculty (TTF) hiring at the University of Oregon using the processes and programs below. TTF hiring follows the University of Oregon’s Institutional Hiring Plan.

Non-tenure-track faculty hiring is overseen by the schools, colleges or institutes who employ them.

The Institutional Hiring Plan (IHP) guides tenure-track faculty hiring at the University of Oregon. The IHP timeline process begins in the fall with a call for proposals, and includes several stages of input and review before the provost announces the final IHP in the spring.
This page describes the 2018-19 TTF search process, in support of maximizing the university’s ability to attract and recruit outstanding, highly competitive candidates.
The TTF Contingent Offer Letter Term Sheet is a resource for units to use when hiring new tenure-related faculty. Developed in consultation with the schools and colleges, the term sheet develops a customized summary and contingent offer letter based on data entered by the unit.
In support of our efforts to recruit and retain a world-class faculty, OtP provides tools and resources to encourage and assist academic units in the hiring of qualified spouses or partners.
Active recruitment plans are a required component of the faculty hiring process. OtP provides the Fund for Active Recruitment to encourage and assist units engaged in these efforts.
The Target of Opportunity program has been developed to allow the university to expedite the hiring process of exceptional senior faculty members with established records of excellence.
The Underrepresented Minority Recruitment Program (UMRP) encourages departments to hire underrepresented minority faculty in tenure-related faculty appointments by providing supplemental funds to the department following the successful tenure-related appointment of a new colleague from an underrepresented group.
