Flexibility for students with travel challenges

January 9, 2017

Winter term classes at the University of Oregon officially begin Tuesday, January 10, on regular schedule.

Weather hazards and travel problems regionally continue to make it difficult for some students to return and we know that not all returning students will be in Eugene at that time. While roads and walkways in Eugene and on campus are steadily improving, the impact of snow, ice, and extreme cold stretching from Northern California to Washington has caused cancelled flights and delayed most forms of travel.

It is with this in mind that I ask faculty members and graduate teaching fellows to be flexible, understanding, and patient with students regarding class attendance during this stressful time. Please work with these affected students to make necessary arrangements for a positive start to the term.

If you have questions or need assistance, work with those in your schools or colleges to find the most appropriate solutions.

Thanks for your continued flexibility, and please be safe as you travel to and around our thawing campus.
