Sustainable Cities

Building on momentum to make Oregon a world leader

Expansion of the University of Oregon's Sustainable Cities Initiative (SCI) will fundamentally alter the way cities and regions evolve and develop into forms of ecological, social, and economic sustainability.

This initiative calls for the University of Oregon to become a national and international leader in accessible and sustainable city design, while enlisting  expertise from the following core disciplines:

• Planning, public policy and management.

• Architecture.

• Landscape architecture.

The project also calls for key strategic partnerships with  colleges, departments and centers across campus, such as business, environmental studies, international studies, law, journalism, the Center for Labor Education and Research, the Community Service Center, and the Institute for a Sustainable Environment. The Big Idea targets students, national, state and local policy makers, professionals, business and industry, donors, and communities themselves.
